The 2025 Reading and Leeds Festival line-up brings a refreshing shift back to its rock and alternative roots, showcasing a powerful resurgence of heavier music alongside a diverse array of other genres.

Taking place from August 21 to August 24 at its traditional dual sites in Reading and Leeds, the event promises to deliver a weekend that bridges generations of festival-goers with an eclectic line-up.

Bring Me The Horizon Headlines Sunday

Topping the bill as Sunday’s headliner is Bring Me The Horizon, one of the most significant British rock bands of the last decade. Known for their genre-defying sound that blends metalcore, alternative rock, and electronic elements, their headline slot represents a culmination of their evolution from underground darlings to arena-filling titans.

Bring Me The Horizon’s 2024 album, Post Human: NeX Gen, has been both celebrated and scrutinised for its ambitious direction and complex production. Released in May 2024, the album marked the band’s first project after the departure of keyboardist and producer Jordan Fish, who had been instrumental in their genre-blurring evolution. His absence added a layer of tension and uncertainty to the record, which had already faced significant delays since its initial announcement in 2020

The album is the second installment in BMTH’s Post Human series, following 2020’s Survival Horror. While its predecessor embraced a cyberpunk and “lockdown metal” aesthetic, NeX Gen delves into a broader mix of genres, blending elements of alternative rock, metalcore, EDM, and even lo-fi.

However, NeX Gen hasn’t been without controversy. Some fans criticised its eclectic style and experimental interludes, questioning the coherence of its track list. Others were divided on its bold forays into electronic music, although many acknowledged the band’s ongoing legacy as a genre-defying powerhouse. Despite the mixed reactions, tracks like “Amen!” and “Kool-Aid” have solidified their appeal in live settings, aligning with the band’s status as arena-filling titans.

The band’s return to Reading and Leeds marks a celebration of their long-standing relationship with the festival, having first appeared on its stages over a decade ago.

Rock and Alternative Acts Lead a Revival

Complementing Bring Me The Horizon’s presence are several other heavy and alternative acts that reflect the festival’s renewed focus on its rock heritage:

Enter Shikari: renowned for their politically charged lyrics and electrifying performances, are set to deliver another unforgettable set at Reading and Leeds Festival 2025. Their signature fusion of post-hardcore, electronic, and rock elements has established them as festival favourites over the years, and their fanbase continues to grow with each appearance. The band made waves earlier this year with a headline-worthy performance at Download Festival 2024.

Amyl and the Sniffers: Hailing from Australia, this punk-rock powerhouse promises raw energy and a rebellious spirit. Fronted by Amy Taylor, the band’s live shows are notorious for their unfiltered charisma and infectious energy.

Soft Play (formerly Slaves): This British punk duo has been a staple of energetic live performances, offering a raw and raucous sound that resonates deeply with fans of modern punk.

Pale Waves: Adding a softer, more pop-influenced alternative vibe, Pale Waves brings shimmering melodies and introspective lyrics that have earned them a devoted following.

Wunderhorse: A rising star in the indie-rock scene, Wunderhorse blends thoughtful song writing with a grunge-inspired sound that is both nostalgic and fresh.

Diverse Acts Across Genres

While heavier music is a major focus this year, Reading and Leeds maintain their reputation as a melting pot of genres. Headliners like Travis Scott, Hozier, and Chappell Roan bring hip-hop, soulful ballads, and breakout pop anthems to the forefront. Festival-goers will also experience the dance-ready beats of Becky Hill, the indie charm of Bloc Party, and the punk grit of Mannequin Pussy.
